Line commands, primary commands, and the combinations that matter.
Line commands

| I / In | Insert one line / n lines |
| D / Dn / DD…DD | Delete one, n, or a block |
| R / Rn | Repeat a line |
| C / M with A or B | Copy or move, After or Before the target |
| CC…CC / MM…MM | Block copy or move |
| X / XX…XX | Exclude from display |
| S | Show excluded lines |
| COLS | Display a column ruler |
| TABS / BNDS / MASK | Show tab, boundary and mask lines |
| ( ) or < > | Shift data right / left |
Primary commands

| C old new [ALL] | Change |
| X ALL | Exclude every line |
| RESET | Clear exclusions, pending commands and messages |
| SORT c1 c2 | Sort, optionally by column range |
| COPY lib(member) | Insert another member here |
| CREATE / REPLACE lib(member) | Write marked lines to a member |
| SUB | Submit this member as a job |
| HEX ON / OFF | Show hexadecimal under each character |
| CAPS ON / OFF | Force uppercase, or allow mixed case |
| NULLS ON | Keep trailing blanks as nulls |
| RECOVERY ON | Enable UNDO |
| HILITE COBOL | JCL | AUTO | Syntax colouring |
| PROFILE | Show the current edit settings |
| SAVE / CANCEL / END | Save, abandon, or exit |
