BeginnerFAQs
Will I be the only newcomer on the team?
What team composition is often like, and how to get the most from it.
Often the team will be experienced and long-tenured, and you may be the first new joiner in a while. That has real advantages: there is deep knowledge available and usually genuine willingness to share it, because people want the knowledge to outlive them.
Making it work
- Ask questions early and often. Being new is a limited-time licence.
- Write down what you are told; you will be told a great deal in week one.
- Offer something back — documentation, automation, or a modern tool the team has not tried. It changes the relationship from student to colleague.
- If the team is not welcoming, that is a team problem rather than a platform one, and other teams exist.
