Before you submit a job
Ninety seconds that prevent most avoidable failures.
- Is the job name and accounting field correct for you and this site?
- Is the environment right? Check every dataset HLQ — production and test look similar at 2am.
- Check every DISP. Is anything DELETE that should not be? Is anything NEW that already exists?
- Are dates and PARM values current, not copied from last month?
- Does the STEPLIB point at the library you just bound into?
- Is the job class appropriate for the resources this will use?
- If it updates production data, has it been through change control?
- If it is new or heavily changed, run it with TYPRUN=SCAN first.
- Do you know how to tell whether it worked, beyond RC=0?
- If it fails halfway, do you know whether it can be rerun?
