First week checklist
What to get sorted before you can be productive.
Access
- TSO userid, and confirm you can log on and reach ISPF
- OMVS segment, if you will use z/OS Unix
- Read access to the source, JCL and load libraries for your applications
- SDSF access, and know which commands you are permitted
- Scheduler access, at least read-only
- DB2 or CICS access as your role requires
- The ticketing and change management systems
Information
- The LPAR names and what each is for
- The CICS region names and DB2 subsystem names per environment
- The dataset naming standard
- The list of applications your team owns
- The runbooks, and where they live
- The on-call rota and escalation path
- Who to ask for each kind of problem
Set-up
- Terminal emulator installed, with keyboard mapping you understand
- ISPF profile: RECOVERY ON, HILITE AUTO, useful PF keys
- SDSF PREFIX and OWNER set at logon
- A personal library for scratch JCL
- A running notes document — start it on day one
