My job is not running
Submitted, but nothing happens. A decision tree.
Work through this in order
- Is it on the queue at all? SDSF ST with your PREFIX and OWNER set. If it is not there, the submit failed — check for a message in your TSO session.
- Is it in the INPUT or CONVERSION queue? Something is wrong with the JCL itself; check for a JCL error.
- Is it in EXECUTION? Then it is running, not stuck. Check DA to see whether it is using CPU.
- Is it awaiting execution? Look at the job class. Are all initiators for that class busy, or is the class held?
- Is it waiting on a dataset? Another job holds it with DISP=OLD or NEW. Find the holder and decide whether to wait or escalate.
- Is it held? TYPRUN=HOLD, or a scheduler hold, or an operator hold.
